Call Taker/Dispatcher
STARTING MONTHLY SALARY: $3,842
Job Description
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls and determine if Police, Fire, or Ambulance is needed, efficiently and in a calm, professional manner.
- Interview and respond to the caller’s situation to provide services, information, and/or referral to other agencies or elements.
- Obtain information, efficiently and accurately determine type of call and priority, and enter details into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system simultaneously in order to assist officers and foster officer and citizen safety.
- Monitor and manipulate multiple computer screens.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive or confidential information.

Requirements & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must reside within 30 statute miles of Kansas City, Missouri city limits during employment
- Successful completion of medical, physical fitness, psychological evaluations, and CVSA test
- Keystoke test: 80% accuracy or better

- MMPI Assessment
Experience:
- Previous typing and data entry experience is required

Physical, Cognitive, and Psychological Requirements:
- Must meet department-established physical, cognitive, and psychological health standards
- Position requires light lifting (5-20 pounds) two to three times a day
- Ability to hear and use the telephone
- Ability to perform stationary work at a computer screen and keyboard
- Incumbent will be required to sit/stand at a designated console for prolonged periods of time, utilize a computer micro-touch screen, type information into a computer terminal, while gathering and disseminating information over the telephone and/or computer screen.
