Patrol Desk Clerk

STARTING MONTHLY SALARY: $3,033

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must reside within 30 statute miles of Kansas City, Missouri city limits during employment
  • Successful completion of medical, physical fitness, psychological evaluations, and CVSA test
  • Previous typing and data entry experience
  • Must have telephone skills, knowledge of Microsoft Word, email and web browser software
  • Position requires accurate spelling and grammar skills
  • Must be able to multi task and perform well under moderately stressful conditions at times
  • Ability to actively listen and communicate effectively
  • And, the ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • None

Physical, Cognitive, and Psychological Requirements:

  • Must meet department-established physical, cognitive, and psychological health standards
  • Position is primarily sedentary and incumbent may be required to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Must have hand dexterity to type reports and the ability to hear citizens clearly
  • May be required to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.

Brief Job Description

  • Receive information; prepare appropriately classified typed and written reports with a high degree of accuracy
  • May take complaint reports from citizens in person and instruct citizens on formal complaint procedures
  • Treat upset citizens tactfully and professionally, assist in calming them, and determine appropriate entity to resolve the situation
  • Type incident reports, memorandums, and interdepartmental communications
  • Collect and record monies due on criminal history checks, sales of reports, and bonds
  • Assign case report numbers; check parties in computer; complete phone-in court time and overtime vouchers
  • Scan and index documents
  • Answer and route incoming phone calls; must have the ability to recognize calls requiring a police response, determine if the call is an emergency or non-emergency and route accordingly
  • Receive, recover, appropriately package property received from citizens
  • Interact with officers, citizens, and bonding agents to obtain information to complete bonding of an arrest
  • Collect bond money and prepare bond packets
  • Perform miscellaneous office tasks such as distributing mail, routing reports, filing, entering and transmitting messages, and logging reports
  • Assist citizens with routing and appropriate travel directions, requiring the ability to read maps
  • Perform data uploads from various systems (i.e., in-car cameras, body cameras, etc.)
  • Make copies of footage captured on DVD’s, CDs or thumb drives prior to recovering them as evidence
  • Perform related duties as required
