Records Specialist

STARTING MONTHLY SALARY: $3,033

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must reside within 30 statute miles of Kansas City, Missouri city limits during employment
  • Successful completion of medical, physical fitness, psychological evaluations, and CVSA test
  • Position requires accurate typing, spelling, clerical, and verbal communication skills
    • Keystoke test - 80% accuracy or better
    • Clerical test - 75% accuracy or better
  • Must possess a current valid driver’s license to perform occasional mail runs

  • None

Physical, Cognitive, and Psychological Requirements:

  • Must meet department-established physical, cognitive, and psychological health standards
  • Lifting/carrying up to 5 to 20 lbs. daily and 20 to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Position requires crouching, standing, walking, pulling, kneeling, typing, reaching, repetitive hand motion, pushing, sitting and driving daily
  • Must be able to hear with or without correction and to distinguish color on reports

Brief Job Description

  • Access, provide, and delete sensitive information from police reports for law enforcement personnel and authorized requestors.
  • Handle highly sensitive information confidentially and professionally.
  • Enter data on stolen vehicles, plates, guns, property, runaways, wanted persons, and crime-related vehicles into the computer system.
  • Process requests and payments for police reports, prepare daily and biweekly reports of receipts.
  • Verify and enter stolen vehicle/license plate information, including recovery details.
  • Manage and report vehicle/license plate recovery and notify owners.
  • Communicate and distribute information to/from other criminal justice agencies.
  • Enter arrest disposition details into Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System.
  • Respond to teletypes for criminal data, vehicle, and firearms inquiries, including corrections.
  • Handle residence and welfare checks, sending responses and notifications to other agencies.
  • Process repossessed vehicle information and retrieve data from imaging systems.
  • Copy and distribute various police-related documents and reports.
  • Provide public assistance at the service counter and via phone.
  • Generate reports for various incidents when investigation isn't required.
  • Access and print microfilm/microfiche reports.
  • Scan, index, and organize reports in the Records Management System.
  • Sort and distribute mail, handle postage, and maintain meter costs.
  • Other related duties, as required.
