Job Description Summary

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate professional staff in the Employment Section.

  • Ensure compliance with department policies, legal standards (ADA, EEOC, MHRA), and best practices in applicant processing and background investigations.

  • Streamline hiring processes, enhance efficiency, and implement recruitment strategies.

  • Oversee applicant screening, background checks, fingerprinting, CVSA exams, and ensure minimum qualifications are met.

  • Review background reports and make hiring recommendations; act as liaison between investigators and leadership.

  • Approve job postings and manage outreach via department website, social media, job boards, and recruitment events.

  • Coordinate pre-employment testing logistics and maintain adequate testing resources.

  • Supervise the College Internship Program and manage related staffing and scheduling.

  • Maintain secure and compliant handling, retention, and purging of applicant records.

  • Provide ongoing staff coaching, performance evaluations, and disciplinary recommendations.

  • Communicate regularly with leadership on hiring needs and recruitment progress.

  • Collaborate with external agencies to verify applicant information.

  • Recommend process improvements and serve as backup to the Employment Coordinator.

  • Manage recruitment-related projects and monitor hiring trends.

  • Ensure reliable attendance and availability for weekend testing as required.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Must reside within 30 statute miles of Kansas City, Missouri city limits during employment
  • Valid driver's license
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or possess equivalent experience to provide the desired knowledge and skills
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 
  • Experience in supervising others.
