Police recruits on the verge of graduating from the police academy will soon begin their service to Kansas City.
Following tradition, these recruits – members of the 181st Entrant Officer Class – held a group run the morning of Sept. 13. in honor of a fallen KCPD officer.
The recruits ran in honor of Officer Thomas Meyers, who was killed in 1998 when a drunk driver struck him while Meyers was helping someone on I-29.
Meyers served in law enforcement for 25 years after serving in the United States Marine Corps.
Chief Stacey Graves and Mayor Quinton Lucas thanked the recruits for their willingness to serve. Lucas also took part in the 1.5-mile run.
