On the verge of graduating from the police academy, recruits run in honor of a fallen KCPD officer.
The morning of Nov. 7, the 185th Entrant Officer Class honored Officer William Kenner, who died in 1955. In May of that year, Kenner was off duty and having coffee at a restaurant with his wife when he heard a gunshot. Kenner investigated and found one man armed with a shotgun near a second man, who was lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.
Kenner ordered the shooter to drop his weapon, but the shooter turned and struck Kenner, who died the next day. Kenner was a 23-year veteran of KCPD, an Army World War I veteran, and married.
The 185th EOC will graduate this month and soon serve Kansas City.
