KCPD connecting victims with stolen items
The Kansas City Police Department has uncovered more than $500,000 in stolen property and is now looking for the rightful owners.
During an investigation, the Metro Property Crimes and Impact Squads discovered the wide range of stolen goods – including a vintage motorcycle, scuba equipment, professional tennis equipment, and more – at a residence.
After posting pictures of concert equipment to social media, KCPD learned that Warfus Powell was one of the victims. Powell had large, expensive gear stolen that he was planning to use for after-school enrichment for children.
“I want to thank KCPD for recovering the equipment I had stolen,” Powell said. “There’s still a lot missing, but the detectives did such a great job, such a fast job in locating it… at least the children and students will still have music.”
Powell documented his property, and that was key in reuniting him with it.
“When you have items, take a photo,” KCPD Capt. Leslie Foreman said. “Etch your initials into the property. Take pics and write serial numbers down. That really helps us. And that was helpful in this particular situation as well.”
Powell is still missing guitars, keyboards, and other music equipment, but he’s not the only owner KCPD is trying to find. The stolen goods came from Kansas City, North Kansas City, Mo., Blue Springs, Mo., Overland Park, Kan., and Louisville, Ky.
Some of the items recovered include:
- Concert style speakers – several brands and several speakers
- Concert style electronic equalizer
- Concert style audio/visual board in a large metal case on wheels
- Numerous diving masks
- Diving fins
- Other diving equipment
Please contact Detective Galloway with the Kansas City Police Metro Property Crimes Division at (816) 581-0673 if you have any information which could help us identify the owners. Please have serial numbers and/or police report numbers available to show proof of ownership.
This particular case is still under active investigation with multiple suspects. Once the investigation is completed, detectives will submit a case file to the prosecutor’s office for consideration of applicable charges.
