Starting Tuesday, September 23, officers on patrol will use blue lights to increase their visibility.

They are steady-burning and do not signify an emergency. Drivers do not need to pull over or get out of the way when they see these lights.

During emergencies and traffic stops, officers will continue to use flashing red and blue lights with sirens.

Blue lights will help the community know officers are present.

Each division's chain of command will determine the areas in which the blue lights will be utilized. These areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Entertainment Districts,
  • Risk Terrain Modeling (RTM) Areas,
  • High Crime Areas, and
  • Extra Patrol Requests

The blue lights will be utilized while members are operating or stationary in the patrol vehicle in the designated areas, particularly during hours of darkness. The blue lights will NOT be utilized when members are operating Code One.
