KCPD Lights Up Children’s Mercy Hospital, Bringing Holiday Cheer

Scores of police cars, fire trucks, motorcycles, and other first responders paraded with their emergency lights on around Children’s Mercy Hospital the night of Dec. 14, bringing extra holiday joy to the children and staff at the hospital.
The idea originated with KCPD K-9 Officer Scott Nelson, who grew up in upstate New York. There, a similar event takes place at the Golisano Children’s Hospital.
“I wanted to bring it here to make it a part of Kansas City,” Nelson said. “For all the kids inside, we show them our support.”
KCPD thanks Children’s Mercy and all the first responders from the metro area who joined us for our first Night Lights.
