Beginning May 21, 2016, the Metro Patrol Division, 7601 Prospect Ave., no longer will take walk-in or phone-in reports or accept bonds between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Residents needing to make an in-person report or post a bond during those times can go to the nearby South Patrol Division, located at 9701 Marion Park Dr. Although the Metro Patrol station will not be staffed with desk clerks, the lobby will remain open, and a desk sergeant will be on hand for emergencies.

To cope with financial constraints that have reduced the police department’s civilian staffing by 100 positions over the past five years, Metro Patrol Division Commander, Major Diane Mozzicato, solicited input from neighborhood and business associations about not staffing desk clerks overnight. During a typical month at Metro Patrol, just 18 reports are made during those hours, compared to 333 reports made at all other times.

Major Mozzicato and staff will assess the impact of the change in six months.

All other KCPD patrol divisions remain open 24/7. The Records Unit at Police Headquarters also recently reduced its hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed weekends and holidays.

As always, residents are urged to call 911 in the case of an emergency.
