On September 3, Detective Brandon Evans experienced a dream moment – throwing out the first pitch at a Royals game.
The team honored Evans, a property crimes detective, with the ceremonial pitch for helping save the life of a fan prior to a Royals game earlier this summer.
Evans was off-duty when he heard a call for help in a parking lot. He sprinted to the scene, finding a woman who was having an urgent medical issue. The woman, who had just started to receive CPR, was barely breathing.
The woman, however, stopped breathing. Evans took over the CPR, while medical staff, on hand for the game, arrived with a defibrillator. Evans performed CPR for 12 minutes, while staff administered shocks. The woman went to the hospital and survived.
This past week, Evans and the woman reunited at a Royals game. Evans is a six-year-veteran of KCPD.
