Property retrieval will be affected in wake of fire at KCPD storage facility

Personnel of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department are working hard to recover from a fire at a property storage warehouse this morning.

At 12:47 a.m. today, officers were dispatched on an intrusion alarm at one of KCPD’s property storage facilities. The Kansas City Fire Department also got the alarm and responded. When officers and firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the building, and a portion of it was on fire. There were no injuries or significant damage to the building itself. Personnel are assessing damage to the contents. The fire damage was contained to a small area of the facility. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Clean up is underway to ensure a return to normal operations as soon as possible.

Due to this unforeseeable event, the Department is working diligently to mitigate the impact of the fire. Police are assessing all viable alternatives for storage of property. As KCPD focuses on the immediate needs at hand, there will regrettably be a temporary delay in obtaining any property.

Police ask that prosecutors and attorneys requesting property provide us with as much advance notice as practical, preferably a month or more, to allow us the opportunity to retrieve property.

KCPD requests that citizens with current requests for property allow the Department at least a month to respond to their requests for property.
