At 17, Layne Campbell graduated high school and joined the Navy Reserve.

At 18, Campbell started working for the Police Athletic League (PAL) and became a Detention Facility Officer (DFO) at KCPD.

At 20, Campbell entered the police academy.

At 21, Campbell graduated, becoming a KCPD officer.

Today, the 21-year-old rookie officer has worked at KCPD nearly three years, employed by the department until he was old enough (21 years) to legally be an officer in Missouri.

Now helping his community, every day Campbell is improving, learning how to be a better cop thanks, in part, to the bonds he’s forming.

“I work with a great group of people,” Campbell said. “You become friends when you serve together.”
