Statement Regarding Department of Justice Investigation

The Kansas City Missouri Police Department was notified this morning by the Civil 
Rights Division of the Department of Justice of an investigation into employment
practices. We will cooperate fully with the investigation. It is the policy and practice of
the Board of Police Commissioners and the Kansas City Missouri Police Department
to provide a work atmosphere free of actual or perceived discrimination and
harassment. I am committed to ensuring every member experiences a safe and fair
work environment and every applicant receives fair treatment throughout the hiring
process.

January 2025 Update:

In 2022, the U.S. Department of Justice announced it had initiated an investigation into the employment practices of the Kansas City Police Department. DOJ ceased requesting information from KCPD in 2023. On January 17, 2025, DOJ notified KCPD it had closed the investigation with no findings.
