BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS PRESS CONFERENCE
FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017

A press conference was held on Friday, July 28, 2017, at KCPD Headquarters, Community Room, 1125 Locust, Kansas City.

Commissioner Leland M. Shurin, President
Commissioner Angela Wasson-Hunt, Treasurer
Commissioner Nathan Garrett, Member
Mayor Sylvester “Sly” James, Jr., Member

ABSENT:
Commissioner Michael C. Rader, Member
Mr. David V. Kenner, Secretary/Attorney

The press conference was called to order at 1:05 p.m. by Commissioner Shurin, who announced KCPD Major Richard Smith as the new Chief of Police. Commissioner Shurin explained the exhaustive process that was undertaken, and thanked all of the participants in the effort. Commissioner Shurin advised that Major Smith will take office on August 15, 2017. Major Smith expressed his thanks to everyone involved in the process and the members of the Department. Commissioner Garrett thanked Chief Keith Humphrey, of the Norman, Oklahoma Police Department, for his effort during the selection process, and wished him luck in his future endeavors.

The press conference adjourned at 1:10 p.m.
